December 11
Not too long ago I was in full preparation mode, though it was not for the coming of Jesus on Christmas. I was preparing for my wedding that had taken two years to plan and prepare for. Through the writing of this meditation, I have come to realize that preparing for a wedding celebration is a lot like preparing for Jesus through the season of Advent. While some people see a wedding as a grand (and expensive) party, I saw it as the beginning of a new life with my husband. Once the wedding is over, the gifts are opened, and the thank you cards written, it’s time for the real life to start: the marriage.
We prepare every year for Jesus during Advent. Much like a wedding, we take time to plan, do special things, and pray…sometimes a lot! But after Christmas, it doesn’t just go away. Jesus doesn’t tell us, “Ok, I’m here! I’ll see you at Easter!” Since we take all this time to prepare for him, then we must accept the new life that we have with him. We have to think of Jesus as the “marriage part” of our lives. Yes, sometimes it may take some adjustment, but he is now and forever a part of who we are as Christians. So this Advent season, prepare for Jesus to be born anew into your life. Welcome him into your home and invite him to stay all year round.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending your son into my life. Help me to accept him and your loving Spirit, especially when I seem to be preparing for everything else during this season. Let me see your goodness and light all year. Guide me to prepare a way for you in my life. In your Name, I pray. AMEN.
