Week Two: Preparation
Luke 3:3-6
John the Baptist went into all the region around the Jordan proclaiming. . . "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness; Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God."
Most of us will spend a lot of time this Advent preparing for Christmas. We will bake cookies and other sweet things. We will throw parties. We will go shopping and buy gifts. We will decorate the house. But how many of us will prepare ourselves spiritually for God's incarnation? How many of us will pause to think about the miracle that is the reason for Christmas? How many of us will take some time this Advent to prepare some room in our own hearts for Christ to find a home?
What follows are members of St. Paul's stories of preparing for something very important to them, what they learned from the preparation, and how God was with them in the midst of their preparing. May their stories encourage you to take some time this Advent to prepare yourself for the coming of Christ into your life.
Peace,
