How has being a member of St. Paul's transformed your life?
I first started attending service at St. Paul’s when I was introduced by my (then) fiancé Bob. It was important to him that I find a faith community that I was comfortable in. To be honest, I was less comfortable with myself in the church than I was with the community itself. I grew up as a Catholic and followed that path through High School. I left the church for various reasons, but the strongest being that I no longer felt that Mass was important to me. I was just going through the motions and not really believing in what I was doing or saying. I slowly stopped attending church and St. Paul’s was the first place I “went back” to. Yes, part of it was that I wanted to make my future husband happy, but it was more than that. I wanted to be a part of this group of people. Though I was hesitant at first to even attend the Sunday Formation classes, I now find myself and active member of that committee and I also am teaching a couple classes a year. I am more comfortable with myself as a Christian and I am able to be open and honest about my faith journey. I have found a wonderful group of friends who have supported me and my family in many ways. I believe that being a member of St. Paul’s have given me a confidence in myself and in my faith that will help me develop strong relationships with people both in and out of the St. Paul’s Community. I truly have faith in this path; that this is the one I was supposed to take. St. Paul’s is the place that God wants me to be.
Where have you met God in your ministries with St. Paul's or maybe where has God met you?
A strong rule in our household is that it is a part of your spiritual duty to share your time, talent, and treasure to give back to God. I have done this through my ministries with the adult formation as a teacher. I have also done this through directing the children’s and adult plays that are seen throughout the year. I believe that I found a strong connection with God when I worked on the Passion Play this past Lent. I used my talents as a “theater person” to tell the story of Jesus’ passion and death. It was more than a play with a script and actors, but it was not just the same story I heard every Easter when I was a child. This was different, and I think it was God’s way of opening my eyes to the importance of not only that time of the year, but the story that needed to be told. I hope that by continuing my different ministries with St. Paul’s I will see a God in the big moments as well as in the small ones.
