To be hopeful, to look forward, to imagine, to believe in something better. God gave us this priceless gift in the birth of His Son, Jesus. A new life that would change all life, forever. If you have ever waited for the gift of life to come into your own life, then you understand the ultimate beauty of the gift of hope that can pervade your entire being. And, the actual realization of experiencing the event with all your senses, the miracle of a new life can be no better testament to the hope that God wants us to know and understand. As human beings, we are so very aware of our flaws, our brokenness, our mistakes, regrets; but holding a new life and connecting with all the possibilities that can grow day by day, can change your world, because therein lies hope. God gave us the ultimate symbol of hope in Jesus’ birth but you need only open your eyes, ears and the rest of your senses to realize we are surrounded every moment by signs of hope in the new life of countless living and nonliving symbols.
As a gardener, I hope for new life to sprout from every seed planted.
As a daughter of a father who stayed alive six months longer with the hope of a heart transplant, the extra time was an immeasurable gift.
As a citizen, I continue to hope that the more people are educated and experience the lives of others who suffer on the margins of society, that their hearts and minds will open and learn to become more accepting.
Emily Dickenson’s words ring true:

Emily Dickenson’s words ring true:
“Hope” is the thing with feathers-
That perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without the words-
And never stops- at all- 1
