Any good mystery begs to be solved. It is the fate of every mystery that someone will scrutinize its every wrinkle and fold until the fabric of the riddle becomes smooth. Mystery novels and thriller movies reach their conclusions. Police cases are eventually closed. Scientific puzzles are untangled. Given enough time and patience, all mysteries become stories that keep in us in suspense for a while, then satisfy our hunger for answers to appear.
At least, earthly mysteries.
The mysteries of faith continue to tantalize us, continue to beckon us to wonder, continue to wring questions and doubts from our hearts and minds. Science cannot explain the Resurrection. The sharpest detective may never determine absolutely that a child destined to be the Savior was born in a stable in Bethlehem. No movie or novel will ever truly depict the hereafter.
And yet, faith remains. We believe. And that is the greatest mystery of all – despite concrete evidence, solid lab results or written proof – We Believe!
