Romans 8:24-25
For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
It is my belief that hope is essential for human health and happiness, and perhaps even for life itself. Without hope, what is the point of taking one more step or breathing one more breath? Hope gives us the strength and courage to get up each morning and to embrace each new day, but sometimes hope is difficult. Sometimes we can lose our hope. Advent is a time of hope. It is a time when we delve more deeply into God's promise to us that light triumphs over darkness and good triumphs over evil.
There is nothing more hopeful than a newborn baby, and I think God knew this when God entered our world as a tiny baby boy. Advent is a time to rekindle our hope for ourselves and for our world.
What follows are members of St. Paul's stories about something they have hoped for, what they learned from this hope, and where God was with them in this hope. May Advent be a time of renewed hope in your life and in your world.
Peace,
